Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is a Prep Center and how does it work?
A Prep Center is a logistics facility that receives, inspects, prepares, and manages inventory for e-commerce sellers.
At Squirrel Prep Center, we offer two primary service models:
Marketplace Preparation (FBA / WFS):
We receive the merchandise, perform a visual inspection, apply required labeling such as FNSKU labels, polybag the products when required, assemble bundles or multipacks, palletize inventory when applicable, and dispatch the shipment to Amazon FBA or Walmart WFS fulfillment centers. Once the inventory is delivered to the marketplace fulfillment network, Amazon or Walmart is responsible for storage and final delivery to the end customer.
Standard 3PL Fulfillment (FBM / Online Stores):
Inventory is stored at our facility. When a customer order is received through an integrated sales channel such as Amazon FBM, Walmart, Shopify, eBay, or another approved platform, Squirrel Prep Center picks and packs the order, applies the shipping label provided or authorized by the client, and hands the package over to the designated carrier for direct delivery to the end customer.
2. Is there a minimum shipment volume required to work with you?
There is no minimum monthly unit volume requirement, and we do not charge a monthly account maintenance fee.
However, minimum quantities apply to each inbound shipment or lot received at our facility:
Standard Individual Product: Minimum of 200 units of the same SKU per shipment.
Big Size Individual Product: Minimum of 200 units of the same Big Size SKU per shipment.
Bundles / Multipacks: Minimum of 100 completed units of the same defined bundle SKU per shipment. The client must provide sufficient components to assemble the required 100 completed units.
3. Do you accept flammable (Hazmat) products or hazardous materials?
No. Hazardous materials (Hazmat) and glass products are strictly excluded and are not accepted.
We also do not accept illegal or counterfeit products, firearms, ammunition, live plants or animals, alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, prescription medications, or any products requiring special licenses, permits, or storage controls unless specifically approved in advance.
4. What is your fee structure?
Squirrel Prep Center does not charge setup or onboarding fees, deposits, or mandatory monthly account fees.
Our published fee structure is as follows:
FBA / WFS Preparation
Standard Individual Product — Up to 16 × 12 × 8 inches and 4 lb: $0.59 per prepared unit. For lots of 10,000+ units of the same SKU: $0.50 per unit.
Big Size Product — Exceeding standard size limits, up to 25 × 20 × 15 inches and 10 lb: $0.99 per prepared unit. For lots of 10,000+ units of the same SKU: $0.89 per unit.
Bundles / Multipacks — Up to 25 × 20 × 15 inches and 10 lb: $0.99 for the first 2 components + $0.50 for each additional component per completed package. For lots of 10,000+ units: $0.89 base fee, plus $0.50 for each additional component.
Standard 3PL Fulfillment — Direct-to-Consumer Shipping
Standard Individual Product: $1.50 per unit shipped.
Bundles / Multipacks: $2.50 base fee, including up to 2 components, plus $0.50 for each additional component per completed package shipped.
Receiving & Additional Services
Inbound Receiving: Standard receiving of cartons and LTL freight is included at no additional charge. Full-truckload (FTL) or container unloading is charged at $15 per pallet.
Optional Additional Services: Sticker/label removal — $0.35 per unit; bubble wrap — $2.00 per unit; pallet assembly — $20 per pallet; stretch wrapping — $20 per pallet.
5. How and when do I pay for preparation services?
All fees are charged in U.S. dollars (USD).
Payment is processed automatically using the credit or debit card registered and authorized by the client through the customer portal via Stripe.
Service charges are generated and processed once the requested work has been completed.
Other approved charges, such as storage or additional materials and services, are billed when the applicable charge is incurred.
6. Who provides the shipping labels for shipments or returns?
The client is responsible for purchasing, providing, or authorizing the purchase of all shipping labels using the client’s own funds.
Carrier postage, freight charges, surcharges, shipping insurance, duties, and taxes are the sole responsibility of the client and are separate from Squirrel Prep Center’s preparation or handling fees.
For supplier returns, the client must also provide or authorize the purchase of prepaid return shipping labels.
7. How long can you store my products for free?
Initial storage includes four (4) complimentary calendar days, with the date the merchandise is received counted as Day 1.
After the four complimentary calendar days have elapsed, the standard storage fee of $60 per standard pallet (48 × 40 inches) per month applies.
The monthly storage fee is charged as a full monthly fee and is not prorated based on the number of days the inventory remains in storage during that month.
8. Do you handle customer returns or Amazon Removal Orders?
Yes. We receive and process customer returns from approved sales channels and Amazon Removal Orders according to our established return-processing workflow.
Standard Return Processing: $1.00 per item received, including receipt, external visual inspection, and photographic documentation.
Refurbishment / Re-Preparation: If a returned item is approved for re-preparation for FBA/WFS or for a new 3PL shipment to the end customer, the applicable preparation or fulfillment fees will apply in addition to the return-processing fee.
Disposal: If the client authorizes product disposal, the disposal fee is $0.50 per item.
9. What happens if the merchandise received from my supplier does not match my order?
During standard receiving, we verify carton and unit counts, visible SKU/UPC information, and any evident external damage.
Discrepancy Reporting:
If there is a shortage, overage, incorrect SKU, damage, or incomplete information, the discrepancy is documented in the Problems section of the customer portal with photographs, and the affected units are segregated.
Operations on Hold:
Preparation or shipment of the affected items is placed on hold while we request instructions from the client regarding the appropriate resolution, such as return to supplier, rework, or disposal.
No Automatic Charges for Supplier Errors:
Basic discrepancy documentation is included as part of standard receiving and does not incur an additional discrepancy-processing fee.
Return to Supplier:
If a return to the supplier is requested, the first hour of administrative and handling labor is included at no additional charge. Additional labor is billed at $30 per hour, plus any required materials and freight costs paid by the client.
